XERF in Daegu: which face is it right for?
XERF is the newest of Miso Clinic’s three RF devices. New does not mean better, so here is which face it suits and how far its evidence goes, together.
The short answer
XERF (monopolar RF) suits a jawline that is going soft and cheeks that are starting to loosen. It usually needs no anaesthetic and allows same-day return, so it suits people for whom downtime is a problem. It uses two frequencies, 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz, and four handpieces of different sizes applied differently by area. If thin, papery skin is the main concern, boosters come first; it is not the answer for lost volume or severe sagging.
The evidence, plainly: three human studies (20, 39 and 16 people), none with a control group. US FDA 510(k) clearance came in August 2025.

When XERF is not the answer
- Hollow cheeks or temples — tightening can make hollowing look worse.
- Thin, papery skin as the main concern — a dermal material problem, so boosters first.
- Severe sagging — beyond non-invasive RF.
- Pigment or redness — not what RF treats.
- Pacemaker or implanted electronics — monopolar current passes through the body.
Two frequencies, four handpieces
In RF, frequency relates to where heat concentrates in tissue. Computer modelling and porcine histology showed 2 MHz heating broadly and deep in the fat layer, 6.78 MHz heating locally along the fibrous septa. XERF chooses between them by area.

When, and how long
Tightness right after treatment is immediate contraction and soon fades. The lasting change is remodelling over weeks to months, so judge at two to three months. Human follow-up ran 12 weeks to 90 days, so anything beyond that is clinical experience, not data.

Frequently asked questions
Is there anaesthetic?
Usually not needed. Pain-sensitive people have topical anaesthetic as well. Cryogen spray cools the surface throughout.
Can I go to work the next day?
Most people return the same day. Mild redness or warmth may last hours to a day.
Is XERF the same as Thermage?
