XERF versus Oligio: what is the difference?
Both are monopolar RF, so people ask “aren’t they the same?” Half yes. Here is where the other half parts ways.
The short answer
XERF and the Oligio unit are the same monopolar RF class and have never been compared directly. Two things separate them. XERF uses two frequencies, 6.78 and 2 MHz, and four handpieces of different sizes applied by zone. The Oligio unit is single monopolar, and the Oligio Kiss at Miso Clinic adds focused ultrasound as a separate device. Zone-by-zone precision with no downtime points to XERF; sagging into the deeper layer points to Oligio Kiss. Evidence: XERF three studies and 75 people, Oligio 20, none controlled.

Where XERF leads, where Oligio Kiss leads
XERF: two frequencies heat fat layer and fibrous septa differently, and four handpieces match area from eyes to neck. Usually no anaesthetic, and US FDA clearance.
Oligio Kiss: broad RF heating followed by focused-ultrasound points in the deeper layer, in one sitting. A candidate when sagging has reached that layer.
Which gives the better result has never been compared.
RF and focused ultrasound are not rivals
RF heats a broad volume evenly; focused ultrasound places points at a fixed depth. They do different jobs. So “XERF or Oligio Kiss” is really “do I need RF only, or ultrasound as well”. More in HIFU and RF are not competing technologies.
Which treatment fits which concern
| Concern | Treatments to consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Jawline and cheek sagging, no downtime, by zone | XERF | Four handpieces, usually no anaesthetic |
| Sagging into the deeper layer | Oligio Kiss | Focused ultrasound added |
| Narrow zones such as eyes | XERF i05 | Narrow-zone handpiece |
| Thin, papery skin | Booster class first | Not the RF layer |
| Hollow cheeks | Filler class | Neither |
Which treatment is “best” is decided by the state of your skin right now, not by the product. In consultation we look first at what has been lost and what is still there, before we talk about any product name.
Frequently asked questions
Both XERF and Oligio Kiss?
That heats the same layer twice, so we advise against it. If ultrasound is needed, go to Kiss from the start.
Is Oligio Kiss more painful?
Focused ultrasound works point by point and does sting momentarily. XERF usually runs without anaesthetic.
Why no Oligio unit?
Miso Clinic’s three RF devices are XERF, Density and Oligio Kiss. We did not add the unit alone.
