How many XERF shots are right?
XERF price lists also show shot counts. But with four handpieces, “which handpiece, where” comes before “how many”.
The short answer
each XERF handpiece has a fixed maximum shot count. XERF i05 is 400, i10 is 300, and EFFECTOR E40 and E60 are 600. In practice the count is set by how many zones are sagging and how large they are, and the endpoint is reaching the right heat in each zone, not using up the shots. No human study has compared shot counts for XERF or any other RF device.

Notice that i05’s 400 shots cover far less area than E40’s 600. That is why shot count alone says nothing about “more” or “less”.
How we decide
- Zones first. Jawline only, cheeks too, eyes too, by examination.
- Handpiece to match the zone. i05 for narrow zones, i10 for cheeks and jawline, E40 for the whole face.
- Endpoint is heat feedback. When a zone reaches the right heat, that zone is done.
- We do not fire extra to use up shots. Not re-firing immediately on the same spot is a long-standing recommendation.
Do more shots mean more effect
No human study has randomised shot counts. What exists is a three-person histology study and a porcine experiment firing 1, 6 and 12 times on the same spot. In the pigs the 12-shot group grew collagen fastest, but 12 was the top dose so the saturation point is unknown. So in humans there is no evidence that more is better, and none that fewer is safer.

Which treatment is “best” is decided by the state of your skin right now, not by the product. In consultation we look first at what has been lost and what is still there, before we talk about any product name.
Frequently asked questions
Is 600 XERF shots the whole face?
With E40 or E60, 600 generally covers the whole face. The same 600 on a different handpiece is a different area.
Is another clinic’s 300 the same as yours?
Only if handpiece and zone match. Ask “which handpiece, where”.
Can leftover shots be used next time?
Handpieces are single-use consumables, so no. We choose to match zones and area from the start.
