GOURI and Juvelook: how do they differ, and which skin does each suit?

GOURI and Juvelook are both called “collagen boosters”, so they sound like the same treatment. In fact the material and the way each behaves after injection are different. With both products in the clinic, here is how I choose.

Clinical column About 5 min October 2026 Miso Clinic, Daegu · Dr. Lee Chi-Hak, Medical Director

The short answer

GOURI is particle-free liquid PCL, so it spreads in a sheet along the injected layer; Juvelook mixes PDLLA particles into hyaluronic acid, so it stays where it is placed and stimulates collagen there. So GOURI evens out texture and firmness across the whole face, while Juvelook, depending on particle size (20–65 µm), targets chosen areas from skin texture through to volume. No study compares the two directly, and neither has a reversing injection. At Miso Clinic, 4F Bombom Building, 125 Dongdeok-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (Exit 1, Kyungpook Nat'l Univ. Hospital Station), +82-53-428-2700, we have GOURI and the full Juvelook line-up and choose by the shape of your concern.

Which do I consider first for which concern?

Which I consider first, by concern (clinical judgement)
ConcernConsidered firstWhy
Dull, rough texture across the whole faceGOURIEvens out a wide area
Texture, pores or acne marks in particular areasJuvelook Skin or iFocuses on chosen areas
Localised hollowing such as nasolabial folds or templesJuvelook Volume or GLarger particles give support in deeper layers
Thin skin, worried about feeling granulesGOURINo granules to clump

If you remember “evening out a wide area” means GOURI, and “focusing on this area” means Juvelook, you will not go far wrong.

Which has more evidence?

Neither has much. GOURI has human data on 33 people in total, up to 6 months, and no human biopsy data yet. Research on Juvelook in Korea is growing, and in a study of 33 people that put the Juvelook family (PDLLA + hyaluronic acid) on one side of the nasolabial folds and PLLA on the other, improvement was similar up to 24 weeks.

No study has set GOURI directly against Juvelook. So I do not say “this one lasts longer”.

A reflection on Juvelook and Sculptra

Juvelook’s PDLLA and Sculptra’s PLLA are both polymers made from lactic acid. The difference is whether the molecules line up. PLLA is partly aligned like a crystal and breaks down slowly, while PDLLA has no alignment and produces a relatively gentler response.

The number I watch is the follow-up period. In a randomised trial of 208 people with nasolabial folds, PLLA and hyaluronic acid filler were similar up to 12 weeks, diverged after 24 weeks, and at 120 weeks stood at 55.56% vs 25.00%. The 33-person study comparing Juvelook and PLLA ended at 24 weeks. This means differences between stimulators may show over one to two years rather than a few months, and my reflection is that “similar” in a short study should not be read as “the same”.

Where does GOURI sit on this line? Because it has no particles and spreads, it is of a different kind from PLLA and PDLLA. It is more accurate to see it as a material aimed at the quality of the whole surface rather than at long-lasting volume.

What should I watch for with both?

  • There is no reversing injection — start conservatively and add later
  • Palpable lumps are usually a matter of layer and distribution — if it becomes red, painful and swollen beyond 2 weeks, contact us straight away
  • Fullness right after treatment is not the result — assessment comes after 2–3 months
  • If the cheeks are already hollow, I talk about dissolvable hyaluronic acid filler first

GOURI vs Juvelook: frequently asked questions

Which is better, GOURI or Juvelook?

No study has compared them directly. For texture across the whole face I consider GOURI first; to focus on chosen areas or when some local volume is needed, Juvelook.

Is Juvelook the same as Sculptra?

They belong to the same lactic acid polymer family, but Juvelook is PDLLA with added hyaluronic acid, and Sculptra is PLLA. PLLA breaks down more slowly and is often used for volume.

Can GOURI be felt as granules?

It is a particle-free liquid, so there are no granules to clump. However, if it pools in one layer a lump can be felt, so the layer and division into points matter.
