Rituo and GOURI: how do they differ, and which should come first?
“Which is better, Rituo or GOURI?” These days it is one of the first questions in skin booster consultations. From a treatment room that has both products and uses them every day, I will answer it with “which suits you” rather than “which is better”.
The short answer
Rituo is a booster that puts the material skin is made of (hADM, acellular human dermal matrix) directly into the dermis, while GOURI is a booster that puts in particle-free liquid PCL to stimulate your own new collagen. Both address skin texture and density rather than volume, but Rituo works by replenishing the material of thinned dermis, and GOURI by spreading in a sheet across the whole face to lift texture and firmness. No study compares the two directly, so neither can be called superior. The human research is a split-face randomised trial of 20 people for Rituo, and 33 people in total, up to 6 months, for GOURI. At Miso Clinic, 4F Bombom Building, 125 Dongdeok-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (Exit 1, Kyungpook Nat'l Univ. Hospital Station), +82-53-428-2700, we have both products and choose by skin thickness and concern.
What do Rituo and GOURI do inside the skin?
| Item | Rituo (Re2O) | GOURI |
|---|---|---|
| Maker | L&C Bio | Dexlevo |
| Ingredient | hADM — structural components of human skin with the cells removed | Liquid PCL 21% — no particles |
| What it does | Supplies material directly | Stimulates collagen production |
| After injection | Settles in the dermis | Spreads in a sheet along the injected layer |
| Main concerns | Thinned dermis, density, fine lines, pores | Texture, firmness and dullness across the whole face |
| What it cannot do | Lost volume, sagging contours | Lost volume, sagging contours |
| Reversal | None | None |
In one line: Rituo “gives”, GOURI “prompts”. That is where the speed and manner of the results part ways.
Which has more evidence?
Honestly, neither has much. But the evidence is of a different kind.
- Rituo — a split-face double-blind randomised trial at Severance, 20 people, 20 weeks (Rituo on one side, hyaluronic acid on the other). Because it compares the left and right of the same person, differences in conditions cancel out
- GOURI — human data is a 30-person pilot and 3 case reports, 33 people in total, up to 6 months. There is no human skin biopsy data yet, and the tissue finding of increased collagen comes from a rat study (40 rats, 6 weeks)
So I go only as far as saying “Rituo has a small human trial with a control group, and GOURI has a mechanism confirmed in animals but little human data”. There is no comparison showing which gives the larger result.
Which do I consider first for which skin?
| Concern | Considered first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thinning skin with little firmness, fine lines, pores | Rituo | Directly replenishes the material of thinned dermis |
| Dull, rough texture across the whole face | GOURI | Spreads in a sheet to even out a wide area |
| Thin, sensitive areas such as around the eyes | Rituo family (including CELLREDM) | Particle-type stimulators call for more caution in thin areas |
| Hollow cheeks or temples | Neither | Dissolvable hyaluronic acid filler first |
| Uncomfortable with human-derived material | GOURI | Rituo is derived from donated human tissue |
Where do they sit next to Sculptra and Juvelook?
If you line up collagen boosters by “how much they stimulate”, it looks roughly like this. Sculptra (PLLA) stays in the deeper layers and draws out a long-lasting volume response, Juvelook (PDLLA + hyaluronic acid) draws out a gentler, texture-side response, and GOURI spreads through the dermis without particles, aiming at texture and density. Rituo sits outside this line, because it puts in material rather than stimulating.
My reflection is this. With stimulators, results come only if the body responds, and that response varies from person to person with age and skin condition. Rituo, which puts in material, relies less on that response; instead, the amount and layer of material decide the result. So rather than “which is stronger”, I first look at “does my skin have the capacity to respond right now”.
So which should come first?
I recommend choosing one and starting with a single product. If you layer both from the start, you cannot tell which one worked, and neither has a reversing injection. With GOURI, one session is standard and I see you again at 4 weeks; with Rituo, too, the next step is decided after seeing how the first session goes.
Rituo vs GOURI: frequently asked questions
Which is better, Rituo or GOURI?
No study has compared them directly, so neither can be called superior. For thinned dermis and fine lines I consider Rituo first; for texture and firmness across the whole face, GOURI.
Do Rituo and GOURI add volume as well?
No. Both address skin texture and density and do not create volume. For hollow cheeks, I talk about hyaluronic acid filler first.
Is Rituo made from human skin?
Yes. It is the structural component (hADM) of donated human skin with the cells and DNA removed. If that makes you uncomfortable, we plan with a non-human-derived option such as GOURI.
