Density Noir vs XERF: what is the difference? — same RF, different approach

We have both Density Noir and XERF at Miso Clinic. So I often hear “Which one is better?” Neither is simply better; they do different jobs. Start with the table, then see which faces I tend to discuss each device for first.

The short answer

Density Noir fires monopolar then bipolar RF within one shot to treat deep and shallow layers together. XERF uses monopolar RF at two frequencies (6.78MHz and 2MHz) with four handpieces of different sizes to split the work by depth and area. No study has compared the two devices in the same people, so I do not say one is “better.” We choose based on skin thickness, where the sagging is and which layer we want to treat. Miso Clinic, 4F Bombom Building, 125 Dongdeok-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (Exit 1, Kyungpook Nat'l Univ. Hospital Station), +82-53-428-2700 has both devices and is a XERF Ambassador clinic selected by the XERF manufacturer.

Which faces do I discuss Density Noir for first?

  • Loss of firmness together with shallow-layer concerns like texture and fine lines
  • Thin skin, where treating two layers evenly works better than heating one layer hard
  • Early to moderate sagging, where you want a broad area treated evenly

Which faces do I discuss XERF for first?

  • Sagging in deeper layers, such as the jawline and cheeks, as the main concern
  • Narrow, thin areas like around the eyes or above the brows that need separate work: we use the small i05 handpiece
  • When you want depth and area planned separately for each region

Can you get both together?

Depending on your face, we sometimes plan both by splitting areas. For example, one device for deep sagging and the other for the shallow layer. Since both use heat, I adjust the order and amount so the same spot is not overheated.

I have not found a study comparing the combined use of these two devices. So I do not claim “doing both works better.”

How do pain and downtime differ?

Both use heat, so you feel brief warmth, more strongly near bone or on thin skin. I have not found data comparing pain from the two devices in the same people. Redness and swelling are common with both and usually temporary.

More on Noir pain in Density Noir pain and downtime.

When do I recommend neither?

  • If you have metal or electronic implants in the face, or are pregnant
  • If hollow cheeks or temples are your main concern: RF does not add volume
  • If you want to choose by device name alone: we look at your face first

Density Noir vs XERF: frequently asked questions

Which is better, Density Noir or XERF?

No study has compared them in the same people, so I do not rank them. Noir uses monopolar then bipolar RF to treat two layers together; XERF uses two-frequency monopolar RF and 4 handpieces to split depth and area.

What do you use around the eyes?

For narrow, thin areas like around the eyes, we use the small XERF i05 handpiece.
