Density Noir pain and downtime — how much does it hurt, and when are you back to normal?

A common reason people hold off on RF lifting is fear of pain. Noir has finer cooling control, but it is a heat-based treatment, so you will feel something. Here is what it feels like and what your face looks like afterward.

The short answer

With Density Noir, each shot brings a short burst of heat, felt more strongly near bone or where skin is thin. Noir cools the skin surface with gas before, between and after shots, lets us set cooling at 5 levels, and has a Gentle mode that delivers output even with light pressure. Redness and swelling afterward are common but usually temporary, and many people go back to daily life the same day or the next. At Miso Clinic, 4F Bombom Building, 125 Dongdeok-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu (Exit 1, Kyungpook Nat'l Univ. Hospital Station), +82-53-428-2700, I adjust output area by area while asking how the heat feels.

How much does Density Noir hurt?

Think “a quick hot prick that passes.” Pain varies by person and by area. It feels stronger close to bone, like the cheekbones, jawline and forehead, and where skin is thin.

In a study of 16 people treated with the original Density, average pain was 1.4 out of 5. I have not found data comparing Noir and the original Density in the same people. So I do not tell you “it will not hurt.”

What features reduce the pain?

Density Noir pain and skin-protection features
FeatureWhat it does
Gas cooling (5 levels)Cools the skin surface before, between and after shots, with 5 strength levels
Real-time epidermal temperatureSkin temperature shows on the handpiece screen, so we work while watching it
Gentle modeDelivers output with light pressure, so thin areas do not need to be pressed hard
Impedance feedbackMeasures skin resistance in each area and keeps energy within a set range
RF and cooling sequence within one Density Noir shot, ALPHA tip and BOOST tip
RF and cooling sequence within one shot (Jeisys Medical brochure)

Do you use numbing?

Yes, we start with numbing cream. But I keep it light. You need to be able to tell me about the heat so I can adjust output and cooling for that spot right away. Feeling the heat is an important signal that helps prevent burns.

What does your face look like afterward?

In the Thai study of 26 people treated with Noir, erythema appeared in 96.15% and swelling in 61.53%, and all of it was temporary. Redness usually fades first, and swelling settles over a few days.

Recovery after Density Noir
TimingWhat is commonDaily life
Same dayRedness, warmth, mild swellingFace washing and light activity are fine
Days 1–3Some swelling may remainMakeup usually from the next day
Within a weekMost of it has settledAvoid saunas and heavy drinking for the first few days

Which signs mean you should see us right away?

  • Blisters or oozing
  • One spot that keeps burning and gets darker
  • Swelling or pain that gets worse after a few days instead of better

If any of these happen, contact us right away. RF uses heat, so burns are the first side effect to manage with this type of treatment. Cooling and temperature display lower that risk; they do not make it zero.

When do we not use Density Noir?

  • If you have metal or electronic implants in the face
  • If you are pregnant, or the area has inflammation or a wound
  • If your skin is sensitive from another recent heat-based treatment: we wait and reassess

Density Noir pain and downtime: frequently asked questions

Does Density Noir hurt a lot?

Each shot brings a short burst of heat, felt more strongly near bone or where skin is thin. We use numbing cream and 5-level cooling, and I adjust output by asking about the heat in each area.

Is there downtime with Density Noir?

Redness and swelling are common but usually temporary. Many people return to daily life the same day or the next, and makeup is usually fine from the next day.

When can I wash my face or wear makeup after Density Noir?

Gentle face washing is fine on the same day, and makeup is usually fine from the next day. Avoid saunas and heavy drinking for the first few days.

Is Density Noir done under sedation?

At Miso Clinic in Daegu we use numbing cream. You need to be able to tell me about the heat so I can adjust output and cooling right away, so we keep numbing light.
