How many shots does my face need?
There is no fixed answer, but there is a way to judge the scale. We show the calculation and then explain why we do not treat by it.
The short answer
No manufacturer states how many shots a face needs. As far as we could establish from the whole technical manual, no recommended total for face or body is written anywhere in it, and the endpoint the manufacturer does set is the heat the patient feels rather than a count. There is a way to judge the rough scale, though: multiply tip area by sealed shots for a nominal area, then subtract the overlap. What can be calculated
Each tip has a published area and a sealed shot count. Multiply them and you have the nominal area one tip can cover.

Density tips are sealed at ALPHA 600, Eye 600, Face 1,000 and Body 600 shots, but their areas are not published, so the same calculation cannot be made for them. Thermage is 450 REP on a 0.25 cm² eye tip and 600 REP on a 4.0 cm² TOTAL tip. Thermage appears in the table because its tip specifications are published; Miso Clinic does not have a Thermage device.
Why the calculated figure is not the answer
Three things have to come off it.
- Overlap. Passes overlap by 15 to 30% in practice, so real coverage is smaller than the calculation.
- A face is not flat. On a curved surface the tip does not sit fully against the skin everywhere; beside the nose, along the jawline and around the eyes especially.
- Passes differ by site. The same area may be passed over a different number of times depending on the target plane and the condition of the skin.
So converting square centimetres of face into a shot count does not match how treatment is actually planned. The calculation is for judging scale, not for prescribing.
What we actually go by
Miso Clinic works in this order. It is clinical judgement rather than a criterion from a comparative trial.
- Draw the area first. Whole face, lower face only, or including the neck. Most of the shot count is decided here.
- Choose the tip that fits that area. Small tips over a broad surface need far more shots; a large tip on a narrow, thin site leaves surfaces untouched.
- Adjust power and passes against the response. The manufacturer criterion is heat feedback of 2.0 to 2.5 on a scale of 0 to 4.
- The shot count is the result. It is not chosen first and then filled.
Reversing that order distorts the treatment. “I paid for 600, so 600 must be used” puts heat into places that did not need it, while too few shots for a wide area leaves the coverage patchy.
Roughly what scale is each area
A precise plan needs to see the face, but this helps judge the scale before a consultation. These are notes on relative area, not recommended counts.

Even a whole face differs in area from person to person, and sagging concentrates in different places, so the same count does not fit two people alike.
Three questions worth asking
- Which part of my face does that shot count cover
- Which tip, and how many shots with it, since a different tip is a different amount
- Are there cases where the shots are not all used, or is the full count always delivered
The third is rarely asked and matters. Ending on heat feedback and using up a purchased count are two different treatments. Fees depend on the area and the extent of treatment and are explained by phone or at the clinic.

Shots for my face: common questions
How many shots does a face like mine usually need?
There is no fixed figure. No manufacturer recommends a facial total, and the number needed depends on the area treated and the tip used.
Is 600 shots enough for a whole face?
It depends which tip. 600 shots with a XERF E40 and 600 with an E60 differ by a factor of 1.5 in nominal area.
How is the shot count calculated?
Tip area multiplied by the sealed count gives a nominal area, from which 15 to 30% is subtracted for overlap. A face is curved, so the figure is not used as it stands.
Do all the shots I paid for have to be used?
The manufacturer criterion is heat feedback of 2.0 to 2.5, so using up the count is not the endpoint. Clinics differ in how they handle this, so it is worth asking in advance.
What happens if the shot count is too low?
The area to be covered is not fully covered and the treatment is patchy, which is why the area should be decided before the count.
How many more shots does adding the neck take?
The neck is thin and curved and is planned separately from the face. There is no fixed multiplier; the area is decided first.

- A shot is a sealed specification — US FDA GUDID entries and each manufacturer’s published data. The 300 / 600 / 900 sold in the market fall out as multiples and combinations of those specifications. It is a consumable unit, not a clinically defined dose.
- XERF specifications — Lutronic published data: monopolar, 6.78 MHz plus 2 MHz, handpieces i05 (5×10 mm · 400 shots) · i10 (10×10 mm · 300 shots) · E40 (20×20 mm · 600 shots) · E60 (20×30 mm · 600 shots). The shot count is sealed into the tip; it is not a recommendation for how many shots a face needs.
- Density specifications — Jeisys Medical published data: monopolar then bipolar in sequence, up to 400 W, RIC impedance adjustment, five-stage gas cooling, tips ALPHA 600 · Eye 600 · Face 1,000 · Body 600 shots (sealed guaranteed count). Approved as a medical device by the Korean MFDS. Tip areas are not published by the manufacturer.
- Thermage — Solta Medical, 6.78 MHz monopolar. US FDA GUDID entries: TT0.25F6-450 = eye tip 0.25 cm² · 450 REP, TT4.00F6-600 = TOTAL tip 4.0 cm² · 600 REP. Miso Clinic has neither Thermage nor Ultherapy.
- Comparisons between tips — the study that compared XERF effector tips by size found no statistically significant difference. We found no human measurement of depth reached by tip size, and no human comparison between Density tips.
- Fees and patient inducement — Medical Service Act Articles 45 (posting of non-covered fees), 27(3) (prohibition of inducement for profit) and 56(2) (prohibited advertising). That is why no price or discount appears in this column.
